It's been a while..

So, it has been some time since my last post..

The joys of returning to full time work!

We have been a bit thin on the ground with rugby since before Christmas. What with the weather playing havoc with the pitches and the school rugby season coming to an end, I think this may just be the first year ever in 20 years of being a rugby mum I have spent more time on the side of a football pitch!
When there has been a game or training it has been freezing cold or extremely wet. My boys favourite playing conditions. Mine not so much! Washing muddy kits is the downside to being a proud mama.

Well, this week saw a turn in the weather, a trip to Twickenham and training. My boy was lucky enough to be invited to the open training session with the England team on Friday. He was full of aspiration after that.

He has always wanted the ultimate prize in rugby, that chance to wear that shirt.

He has taken advise from his teacher's and set himself some targets. There are targets for him, targets for his game and targets for home.

He knows he needs to perfect his skills and he has set a target for his kicking game.

He has realised that on his team there is one boy who hits the perfect tackle every time. The greatest little fullback. He has set a target to avoid being tackled by him in training.

He has also realised that fitness and nutrition comes into play now as well. He has decided to be more healthy on the food side of things. We have explored protein, carbs and fibre. High sugar and fatty foods.

Now this is the hard one, to say he is a meat and two veg kinda guy is quite literally what he is. He has an aversion to cold food and really only eats chicken, broccoli and carrots from the good foods list. His ultimate dinner is a riveting chicken and noodles with a splash of soy sauce.
We have looked at the high sugar things he loves and are trying to swap for a healthier alternative. This afternoon we have made some high protein flapjacks with cranberries, apricots, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds and cacao powder. Not quite the choc chip cookie but a good alternative. We also made some Tom Kerridge popcorn cranberry and crispy squares. They would have been a huge hit if they were made with milk chocolate rather than dark.

We are trying different dinners this week too. Fish is a big no no for him but if salmon is good enough for the England boys its good enough for him.

The target we have set for home is to have a good breakfast with one piece of fruit and an adequate drink before leaving the house in the morning.

Fruit and hydration are both a bone of contention for us.

Why do boys not feel they need to drink?

Anyway, wish us luck, I think we may need some!
