And That's A Wrap...

And That’s A Wrap...

So, today sees every parent’s nightmare... end of the season. Lie ins on a Sunday, family time doing things other than rugby. To say I am looking forward to the break is an understatement, but…

What will we do with our little darlings every weekend for the rest of the summer? Now, those that know me know that I am the first to moan about being on the side-lines all weekend, but in reality, even I will be lost!

This week saw the boys entering the last tournament of the season, Harlequins Amateur Festival. They all loved this tournament last year and played fantastically. They didn’t disappoint this year either! To say I am proud of each one of them is an understatement. I have watched these boys from eight years old finding their feet in the contact sport. From the times they were all in it for themselves to now when they played as one, as a team. To see these boys from so many different walks of life build friendships and excel in the sport that has brought them together is a privilege. They have made the parents and coaches proud today, they pulled off five good wins on the bounce. With pure teamwork and determination.

So, that’s it. No more until September. I am now in a bit of a predicament. Most of the boys will now switch to cricket, a nice relaxed summer sport. I have a unique child, in that he has no interest in summer sports at all! We have suggested cricket, tennis, golf and athletics. Even though he plays these he has no passion for them and can give or take them.

Yes, he probably does need a bit of a rest but knowing my child I will still be dropping him to the local rugby club to practice his kicking and sidestepping. He just doesn’t get that you need a break. So,

Preseason for him(and I have no doubt me) will start next week! Look out for me in park near you wishing I was sat in the local cricket club drinking tea and eating scones with cream and jam!

Have a fantastic summer whatever you may be doing. Enjoy your cream teas and think of me sat outside the local, closed rugby club watching my rugby obsessed charge kicking eggs and running between sticks!
